Many ask, how many hours do I need?
Here is a listing by certification. Remember some ambulance services set their
own policies regarding how often to recertify so please check with your training officer. Also these requirements vary from
state-to-state, so if you are new to ND please contact the DEMS.
CPR-Driver: None needed unless required by individual ambulance service
First Responder: Same as CPR-Driver along
with FR Refresher every 2 years.
EMT-B: 48 hours of continuing education, 24 hour refresher with skill review,
and current CPR
EMT-I: 36 hours of cont. ed., 24 hour EMT-B refresher, 12 hour EMT-I Refresher and current CPR.
EMT-P:
24 hour cont. ed., 48 hour refresher with current skill review, CPR and ACLS. (PALS optional)
EVOC: Two year certification
with 12 hour renewal course
Manual & Auto Defib: Refresher every 2 years with written and skill review
IV Maintenace: Refresher every
2 years with written and skill review
50% Dextrose: Refresher every 2 years with written and skill review
PALS/ACLS/BTLS/PHTLS: all good for 2 years with 8-12 hour refresher courses
Auto Extrication: good for 2 years with 12 hour refresher course
